Vicodin and Prozac

Combining Vicodin® (hydrocodone/APAP) and Prozac® (fluoxetine hydrochloride) may lead to a potentially serious drug interaction. A drug interaction involving Prozac and Vicodin can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur.

To avoid any potential problems, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before taking Vicodin with an antidepressant (including Prozac). He or she may need to monitor you more closely and the dose of your medications may need to be adjusted. Also, because Vicodin can interact with several medications, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins, supplements, and non-prescription medicines).

(Click Vicodin Drug Interactions for more information on the possible complications of combining Prozac and Vicodin. This article also lists other medications that can negatively interact with Vicodin and describes the problems that may occur.)
