Vicodin® (hydrocodone/APAP) is a prescription pain medication. It is a narcotic and is a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States. As a result, it is subject to regulation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Because it is a highly desired drug of abuse, people in the United States wonder if they can buy Vicodin in Mexico, especially because pharmacy laws and regulations in Mexico are not as strict as in the United States.
It is perfectly legal to buy Vicodin in Mexico, as long as you have a valid prescription from an appropriately licensed and registered prescriber in Mexico. Although prescriptions are not required for many medications in Mexico, controlled substances such as Vicodin require a valid prescription.
A legitimate, reputable prescriber in Mexico will not prescribe Vicodin for recreational purposes. He or she will want to see documentation that you are under the care of a legitimate United States medical provider and that you have a legitimate medical need for the drug. Also, a legitimate and reputable prescriber will be hesitant to prescribe large quantities of any narcotic, including Vicodin, especially to a foreigner.
Similarly, a legitimate Mexican pharmacy will not let you buy Vicodin without a prescription from a legitimate Mexican prescriber.
