Generic Tylenol with Codeine: An Overview

Tylenol® with Codeine (acetaminophen with codeine) is a prescription pain medication. It contains two different medications: codeine phosphate (a narcotic related to morphine) and acetaminophen (Tylenol®, also known as APAP). It is usually used to treat short-term pain (such as after an injury or surgery), although sometimes it is used for chronic pain.

Brand-name Tylenol with Codeine is made by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. However, the patents for this medication have long expired, and many different generic versions are currently available. In fact, Ortho-McNeil has stopped making some forms of brand-name Tylenol with Codeine.
