Tramadol HCL 50 mg Tablets

Tramadol hydrochloride (tramadol HCL or Ultram®) is only available in one strength -- tramadol HCL 50 mg tablets. A healthcare provider will consider several factors when determining your dosage, such as your age, how you respond to tramadol HCL, and other medical conditions you may have.

Most people start with a low dosage of tramadol HCL, such as 25 mg (half a tablet) once daily in the morning. Every three days, another 25-mg dose can be added until you are taking 25 mg four times a day. At that point, your healthcare provider may increase your dose by up to 50 mg per day every three days until a dose of tramadol HCL 50 mg tablets four times a daily is reached. Finally, your healthcare provider may then suggest a dose such as 50 mg to 100 mg every four to six hours as needed for pain, up to a maximum of 400 mg total per day.

In some situations, when rapid pain relief is necessary, your healthcare provider might recommend starting with the full dose (tramadol HCL 50 mg tablets to 100 mg every four to six hours as needed for pain, up to a maximum of 400 mg total per day). However, be aware that starting with the full dose increases your risk for bothersome or intolerable tramadol side effects.
