What Is Talacen Prescribed For?

Talacen® (acetaminophen and pentazocine) is a medicine used for the treatment of mild-to-moderate pain. It can be used to treat short-term pain, as well as chronic pain.

Talacen combines an opioid narcotic medication (pentazocine) with acetaminophen (Tylenol®), a non-narcotic pain reliever. When used for controlling pain, Talacen is usually taken every four hours as needed, but not to exceed six tablets a day.

Although most people tolerate Talacen well, it is not suitable for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and non-prescription medicines), as well as any other medical conditions you may have. Because Talacen has abuse potential, there are strict laws regarding its sale and use.
