Talacen Uses

Is It Safe for Use in Children?

Talacen is approved for use in children age 12 and older. It is not approved for use in children younger than age 12, as it has not been adequately studied in this age group. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using Talacen in children.

Can Older Adults Use It?

Older adults can use Talacen. However, they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug, and more likely to experience confusion and excessive sedation from it.
Some experts recommend that this drug should not be used in older adults, due to the risk for confusion, hallucinations, and other central nervous system side effects. If a narcotic pain medication is necessary, other medications may be preferred for older adults. If Talacen is used to treat an older individual, it should generally be used cautiously and started at a low dose.

Off-Label Uses for Talacen

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medicine for something other than pain. This is known as an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no common off-label uses for Talacen.
