Sumatriptan/Naproxen Sodium Dosage

The standard sumatriptan/naproxen sodium dosage for treating migraine headaches is one tablet, taken as soon as possible once a migraine starts. It is not known whether taking a second dose (if the first does not work adequately) is effective. You should not take more than two sumatriptan/naproxen sodium doses in a 24-hour period.

Sumatriptan/Naproxen Sodium Dosage: An Introduction

There is only one standard recommended dose for sumatriptan/naproxen sodium (Treximet™). As always, do not adjust your sumatriptan/naproxen sodium dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

General Information on Dosing With Sumatriptan/Naproxen Sodium

Some considerations for people using sumatriptan/naproxen sodium include the following:

  • Sumatriptan/naproxen sodium comes in tablet form. It is taken by mouth as soon as possible once a migraine starts.

  • Swallow sumatriptan/naproxen sodium tablets whole with a drink of water or other fluids.

  • Sumatriptan/naproxen sodium can be taken with or without food. Because one of the components of the medication (naproxen sodium) can be irritating to the stomach, it may be a good idea to take sumatriptan/naproxen sodium with a little food (although this may not be possible due to nausea from the migraine).

  • Do not take two doses of sumatriptan/naproxen sodium within two hours of each other.

  • For sumatriptan/naproxen sodium to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. The medication will not work if you stop taking it.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your sumatriptan/naproxen sodium dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
