Suboxone and Antidepressants

Prior to taking Suboxone® (buprenorphine and naloxone), tell your healthcare provider if you are taking certain drugs, including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and antidepressants. Taking Suboxone with these medications can increase your risk for serious problems, including:

  • Extreme sedation
  • Low blood pressure
  • Confusion
  • Potentially life-threatening breathing problems.

You should not use Suboxone if you have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days.

(Click Suboxone Drug Interactions for a closer look at the possible complications that may occur if antidepressants, MAOIs, or certain other drugs are taken with Suboxone. This article also explains how to avoid these problems.)
