Sprix Side Effects

Clinical trials have shown that nasal discomfort, eye tearing, and throat irritation are some of the most common side effects of Sprix. In most cases, these reactions are minor and easy to treat. However, it is possible to experience potentially serious side effects. Notify your healthcare provider immediately if you have chest pain, difficulty swallowing, or blood in your urine or stools.

An Introduction to Sprix Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Sprix™ (ketorolac nasal spray) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Sprix

Sprix has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Sprix were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients).

In these studies, the most common Sprix side effects included:

  • Mild nasal discomfort, irritation, or pain -- in up to 15 percent of people
  • Eye tearing -- up to 5 percent
  • Throat irritation -- up to 4 percent
  • Low heart rate -- up to 2 percent
  • Increased blood pressure (hypertension) -- up to 2 percent
  • Stuffy or runny nose -- up to 2 percent.

Additionally, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like Sprix, may cause other common side effects. In the clinical trials involving other NSAIDs, some of these common reactions included:
