Clinical Effects

Studies have shown that Savella can significantly reduce pain and improve physical functioning, compared to a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). In clinical studies, some people experienced significant pain relief as early as the first week of taking Savella.

When and How to Take It

General considerations for those taking Savella include the following:
  • This medication comes in tablet form. It is taken by mouth, usually twice a day.
  • You can take Savella with or without food. If the medication bothers your stomach, try taking it with a little food.
  • Savella is started at a low dose, and the dose is slowly increased. Be sure to follow your dosing instructions carefully.
  • Be sure to take this medication at the same times each day to keep an even level in your blood.
  • For Savella to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly, as withdrawal symptoms could occur.

Dosing Information

The dose of Savella your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • How you respond to Savella
  • Other medications you are taking
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
