Savella for Fibromyalgia

If you have fibromyalgia, your healthcare provider may prescribe Savella™ (milnacipran hydrochloride). This prescription medication is only approved for adults (age 17 and older), and can help treat symptoms of fibromyalgia, including:

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Morning stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Painful menstrual periods
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands and feet
  • Problems with thinking and memory (sometimes called "fibro fog").

When using Savella for fibromyalgia, the medication works by affecting certain chemicals in the brain. Savella belongs to a group of medications called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Although the medication works by affecting the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, it is not exactly clear as to how it works for fibromyalgia.
