How Does Relafen Work?

Relafen® (nabumetone) is a prescription medicine that can help relieve pain, stiffness, and other symptoms caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. But how does Relafen work to treat these arthritis symptoms?

As a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Relafen works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, Relafen is useful at reducing pain, inflammation, and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and painful conditions.

Although this drug can help relieve many of the symptoms of arthritis, it is not a cure for this condition, nor can it slow down the progression of the disease.
