What Is the Recommended Dosage of Pentazocine for Women in Labor?

The usual recommended pentazocine dosage for pain relief during labor is 30 mg given as a one-time IM injection. Alternatively, some women may receive 20 mg given as an IV injection. This 20-mg dose may be repeated two or three times if needed, separated by two to three hours.
 

Pentazocine Dosing for Children

The usual recommended dosage of pentazocine for sedation before surgery is 0.5 mg per kg body weight (about 0.23 mg per lb) given as a one-time IM injection.
