Vistaril
® (
hydroxyzine) is a medication used to treat a variety of conditions, such as itching or allergic reactions caused by opioid drugs. It can also be used to treat nausea and improve the effectiveness of opioid pain relievers. However, because the medicine is not suitable for everyone, make sure to review Vistaril's prescribing information before starting treatment.
For example, you may not be able to take Vistaril if you have certain medical conditions, such as
glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, or
Alzheimer's disease. Also, you may not be able to safely use Vistaril if you are currently taking certain medications (including some vitamins, herbal supplements, and non-prescription products).
Although most people do not experience problems with this drug, Vistaril can cause side effects. Some of the common side effects include dry mouth, drowsiness, and
headaches. Vistaril comes in various forms, including capsules, an oral suspension (liquid), and injections. It is typically taken two to four times a day.
