Ultram ER Drug Information

Not intended for mild or short-term pain, Ultram® ER (tramadol ER) is a prescription medication approved to treat chronic pain in adults who require continuous, around-the-clock pain management. The medication comes in the form of an extended-release tablet that only needs to be taken once a day.

Ultram is not classified as a controlled substance in most states; however, it works to relieve pain primarily through morphine-like activity. Many cases of abuse and dependence have been reported, so make sure your healthcare provider is aware if you have ever had a problem with alcohol or substance abuse.
