Talacen Medication Information

As a type of opioid narcotic, Talacen® (acetaminophen and pentazocine) is prescribed to treat mild-to-moderate pain in adults and children as young as 12 years old. It can be used to treat short-term pain, such as after a surgery, or chronic pain, such as cancer pain.

This drug comes as a tablet that is taken every four hours as needed. However, because there are restrictions for how much acetaminophen (one of the product's active ingredients) you can take each day, do not take more than 6 Talacen tablets in a 24-hour period.

If your healthcare provider recommends treatment with Talacen, he or she will need information on your medical history and any other medications, vitamins, or supplements you are using. Some of the potential side effects of this drug include nausea, drowsiness, and constipation. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before starting Talacen if you are pregnant or have any allergies.
