Pentazocine Drug Information

Pentazocine lactate (Talwin®) is a prescription medication approved to treat moderate-to-severe pain. It can also be used before surgery or in combination with anesthesia. Although most people tolerate this drug well, pentazocine is not suitable for everyone. Therefore, make sure to read the prescribing information before starting treatment.

For example, pentazocine can cause several side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. Also, this drug does have a potential for abuse, so it may not be suitable for some people. Before using it, talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements.

The drug comes as a liquid that is injected into a vein, muscle, or just under the skin every three to four hours. Because pentazocine is a desired drug of abuse, there are strict laws regarding its sale and use.
