Motrin Medication Information

Motrin® (ibuprofen) is a drug used to reduce mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever. It is available in prescription and nonprescription strengths and comes in various forms, including tablets, caplets, and an oral suspension (liquid). Motrin is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting the action of prostaglandins, which are hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Although the medicine is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Before taking Motrin, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you have asthma or any problems with your heart, liver, or kidneys.
