Fentanyl Drug Information

Fentanyl (Abstral®, Actiq®, Duragesic®, Fentora®, OnsolisTM) is an active ingredient found in many prescription medicines approved to relieve pain. Some fentanyl products are used around-the-clock to treat persistent, chronic pain, while others are used on an as-needed basis for breakthrough pain. In some cases, fentanyl is also used as an anesthetic to reduce or prevent pain during surgery or other medical procedures.

Before using fentanyl, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking and any other medical problems you may have. For example, fentanyl has a significant potential for physical dependence and abuse, so it may not be a good choice for people who have a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
