Diclofenac/Misoprostol Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe diclofenac/misoprostol (Arthrotec^®) to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in adults. This combination medicine also contains a drug that can help prevent stomach or intestinal ulcers from forming due to its pain-relieving component. It comes in the form of a tablet and is taken two to four times a day.

 

While most people tolerate the drug well, side effects are possible and include diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal (stomach) pain. In most cases, however, reactions are minor and easy to treat.

 

Although this can be an effective medicine for many people, not everyone can take it. Information on diclofenac/misoprostol should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before beginning treatment to help ensure your safety and minimize potential risks. For instance, people who have diabetes, asthma, or high blood pressure may not be able to safely use this drug.
