Darvon Medication Information

Available only by prescription, Darvon® (propoxyphene hydrochloride) is a drug approved for treating mild to moderate pain in adults. It works in the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), rather than directly at the site of the pain.

Darvon comes in capsule form and is taken every four hours as needed for pain. It is important not to take more than 6 capsules in a 24-hour period.

Because it is a narcotic, this medicine does carry the potential for abuse. For this reason, it is not the best choice for those who have had any problems with alcohol or drug abuse in the past. Also, because this medication is particularly dangerous in the case of an overdose, Darvon may not be suitable for people who have depression or suicidal tendencies.

(Click Darvon for more information on this medication, including exactly how it works, important safety precautions and warnings, possible side effects, and what to do in cases of overdose.)
