Buprenorphine Drug Information
Buprenorphine (Buprenex®, Butrans®, Subutex®, Suboxone®) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of either pain or opioid dependence, depending on the particular medication being used.
It comes in a variety of forms, including:
- A tablet
- An injection
- A film that is dissolved on the tongue
- A patch.
Although the drug is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Before using buprenorphine, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, let your healthcare provider know if you have problems such as kidney, liver, or heart disease; or a history of drug or alcohol dependence.
