Available by prescription only, Anaprox® (naproxen sodium) is a drug that has been licensed to treat several conditions related to pain, inflammation, fever, and stiffness. Some of the specific conditions it is used for include:
As a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Anaprox works by blocking the effects of prostaglandins, which are hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. The medication comes as a tablet and is usually taken no more than twice a day, or every 12 hours.
Although the drug is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. To help ensure a safe treatment, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications before taking Anaprox. In particular, let your healthcare provider know if you have problems such as asthma, diabetes, or liver disease, or if you have ever had a heart attack or stroke.
