OxyContin® (oxycodone ER) is a prescription medicine licensed for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is a narcotic, opioid (morphine-like) pain reliever that is classified as a controlled substance in the United States. The medicine comes in the form of extended-release tablets; these tablets are typically only taken twice a day because they are specially designed to release the medication continuously throughout the day. Potential side effects of this drug include drowsiness, constipation, and nausea.
