Oramorph Dosage

General Information on Dosing With Oramorph

Some considerations for people taking Oramorph SR include the following:
  • The medication comes in the form of an extended-release tablet. It is taken by mouth, usually every 8 or 12 hours, around-the-clock. It is not meant to be taken "as needed" (at unscheduled times only when needed for pain).
  • You can take Oramorph SR with food or on an empty stomach. If the medication bothers your stomach, try taking it with food.
  • Never crush, chew, or dissolve the tablets, as this would release a dangerous amount of morphine. Never take a tablet that appears to be damaged in any way.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not increase your dose without your healthcare provider's approval. Also, do not suddenly stop taking Oramorph SR, especially if you have taken it regularly for more than a few days (see Oramorph Withdrawal).
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your Oramorph SR dosage, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
