Injecting Opana ER

Although a new formulation of Opana® ER (oxymorphone ER) has been approved to resist abuse (it is supposedly more resistant to cutting or crushing), the drug can be abused in a few different ways. It can be taken as intended (by mouth), snorted, or injected. Opana ER tablets are designed to release the medication slowly over time; crushing, chewing, or injecting Opana ER can cause too much oxymorphone to be released too quickly.

Although Opana ER has a high potential for abuse, it is important to distinguish between true abuse of Opana ER and a physical dependence on the drug, which will occur with any long-term use, legitimate or not.
