Nucynta Side Effects

Serious Side Effects

Some side effects with Nucynta are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:

  • Agitation, disorientation, or hallucinations
  • Seizures
  • Signs of serotonin syndrome, such as:

    • Confusion or other mental changes
    • A rapid heart rate
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Hallucinations
    • Blood pressure changes
    • Overactive reflexes
    • Fever
    • Shivering
    • Shakiness
    • Agitation
    • Sweating
    • Seizures
    • Coma

  • The urge to take more Nucynta than prescribed or for a nonmedical purpose
  • Slow or irregular breathing
  • Severe constipation
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.

It should be noted that itching does not usually suggest an allergic reaction to opioids, including Nucynta. Opioids cause a release of histamine, resulting in itching unrelated to any allergy. If you develop itching but no other allergy symptoms, it is unlikely that you are allergic to Nucynta. Tell your healthcare provider, however, since medications are available to help relieve the itching.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the Nucynta side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be related to Nucynta, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
