Nucynta Pain Medication Information

A prescription drug, Nucynta™ (tapentadol) is approved for the short-term treatment of pain. The medication is approved for use in adults only, and it comes in tablet form (typically, one tablet is taken every four to six hours). Because Nucynta is a relatively new medication, it is not yet available in generic form.
This narcotic medicine is considered a controlled substance, which means there are special rules for prescribing and obtaining it, and it may not be the best choice for people with a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Most people tolerate Nucynta well, but as with any medicine, side effects are possible (common ones include nausea, vomiting, and dizziness). Before starting treatment, tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications or if you have liver disease, kidney disease, or epilepsy.
