As a prescription pain reliever, Norco® (hydrocodone/APAP) can temporarily reduce pain due to things like surgeries, dental procedures, or injuries. It is only approved for use in adults, as its effects have not been adequately studied in children. The medicine comes in the form of a tablet and is typically taken as needed (but no more than every four to six hours).
This pain reliever may not be suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with Norco, be sure to tell your healthcare provider if you have certain medical conditions, such as:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Addison's disease
- An enlarged prostate.
Because Norco can cause physical and psychological dependence, you should not stop taking it suddenly or without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision. If the medication is stopped abruptly, it can cause withdrawal symptoms.
