Naprosyn Safety

Naprosyn® (naproxen) is a medication used to treat pain, swelling, fever, and inflammation in adults and children. Although it is generally a safe medication, Naprosyn does have the potential to cause certain complications for some people.

As a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Naprosyn may cause cardiovascular events, such as a heart attack or stroke. People with cardiovascular disease or who have risk factors for cardiovascular disease appear to be at greater risk.

In addition, NSAIDs may cause or worsen high blood pressure. Thus, Naprosyn should be used with caution in people who have high blood pressure. Other problems that may occur in people using this medication include various side effects, such as dizziness, heartburn, and nausea. It is not safe for anyone who has a stomach ulcer or is in the third trimester of pregnancy.
