Naprosyn Drug Class

Naprosyn® (naproxen) is prescribed for a wide variety of conditions that can cause pain, inflammation, fever, or stiffness. For example, it is often used to treat arthritis pain, painful menstrual periods, and pain caused by an injury.

Naprosyn belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medications work by inhibiting the action of certain hormones, called prostaglandins, which cause inflammation and pain in the body.

This medicine is also approved for use in children (over the age of two years old) for treating juvenile arthritis symptoms. To help reduce the risk of developing serious side effects, it is important to take the lowest effective dose for the least amount of time in order to treat your condition.
