Gout
For people with gout, the recommended starting dosage of
Naprosyn is 750 mg by mouth initially, then 250 mg every eight hours until
gout symptoms improve.
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
The recommended starting prescription dose for most children over the age of two with
juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (also known as juvenile
arthritis) is Naprosyn 10 mg per kilogram (kg) of body weight by mouth every day divided into two doses (i.e., 5 mg per kg given twice a day). For example, a 30-kg child would receive 150 mg by mouth twice a day (300 mg total per day).
General Naprosyn Dosing Information
Some considerations for people taking Naprosyn include:
- If you are taking Naprosyn to help relieve arthritis symptoms, such as joint inflammation, it may take one to two weeks for the medicine to work to its full potential. However, Naprosyn helps to relieve pain in about one hour.
- Your Naprosyn dosage should be taken with a glass of water. Taking it with milk or food may prevent an upset stomach.
- Do not break, chew, or crush the Naprosyn tablets.
- If you are taking Naprosyn for arthritis, it should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of medicine in your blood.
- For Naprosyn to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Naprosyn will not work if you take it in a way other than how your healthcare provider recommends.
- If you do not take your Naprosyn as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose at one time or take your dose with other NSAIDs. It is fine to take it with acetaminophen (Tylenol®).
- If you are unsure about anything related to Naprosyn or your Naprosyn dosage, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking Naprosyn without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
