How Does Naprosyn Work?

Available only by prescription, Naprosyn® (naproxen) is a medication used to treat pain, inflammation, fever, and stiffness. It belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). But how does Naprosyn work?

As a NSAID, Naprosyn works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones, called prostaglandins, which cause inflammation and pain in the body. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, this medication is useful for:

  • Relieving pain related to bone, muscle, or tendon injury or inflammation
  • Alleviating pain and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and other conditions
  • Treating pain from menstrual cramps.
