Motrin Strengths

There is no single, standard dose of Motrin® (ibuprofen) that is suitable for everyone. Rather, a few different forms and strengths of Motrin are available, some of which require a prescription. The medication comes in the form of tablets, caplets, and an oral suspension.

Nonprescription strengths of Motrin include:

  • 100 mg
  • 200 mg
  • 50 mg/1.25 mL oral solution -- 1.25 mL contains 50 mg of Motrin
  • 100 mg/5mL oral solution -- one teaspoon (5 mL) contains 125 mg of Motrin.

Prescription strengths include:

  • 400 mg
  • 600 mg
  • 800 mg.

The Motrin strength you are prescribed will depend on various factors, such as the particular Motrin product used, the condition being treated, whether you are taking any other medications, and any other medical conditions you may have. However, to decrease the risk of serious side effects, it is important to take the lowest effective dose for the least amount of time in order to treat your condition.
