Motrin (Ibuprofen) Pain Medicine

Available with or without a prescription, Motrin® (ibuprofen) is a medicine used for:

  • Reducing pain related to bone, muscle, or tendon injury or inflammation
  • Reducing fever
  • Alleviating pain and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and other conditions.

As a pain medication, Motrin works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones (prostaglandins) that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It comes in the form of caplets, tablets, and an oral suspension.

Although most people tolerate it well, this drug is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with Motrin, the pain medicine's warnings and precautions should be fully reviewed with your healthcare provider. For example, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking.
