Metaxalone Dosage

For treating muscle spasms in adults and children (age 12 and older), the recommended metaxalone dosage is the same: one tablet taken three or four times a day. You can take your dose with or without food. However, taking a dose of metaxalone with food can increase the level of the medication in your blood, which may increase your risk of side effects.

An Introduction to Your Metaxalone Dosage

There is only one standard recommended dose for metaxalone (Skelaxin®), regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Recommended Dose of Metaxalone

The recommended starting metaxalone dose for adults and children age 12 and older is one tablet (800 mg) three or four times daily.

General Information on Your Metaxalone Dosage

Some considerations for people taking metaxalone include the following:

  • The medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken three or four times daily.

  • You can take metaxalone with or without food, although taking it with food increases the levels in the blood, which may increase the risk of side effects.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or metaxalone dosing in general, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
