Meloxicam Safety

Available by prescription only, meloxicam (Mobic®) is a drug licensed for the treatment of pain, swelling, inflammation, and stiffness caused by certain forms of arthritis. Although most people have no problems during treatment, there are some important safety issues with meloxicam to keep in mind.

For example, as with any drug, side effects are possible with meloxicam. Most are mild and easily treated; however, there are serious side effects to watch out for, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and slurred speech. Also, this medicine can increase the risk of life-threatening bleeding, so it's important to notify your healthcare provider right away if you have blood in your urine or stools, are vomiting blood, or if you notice red or purple spots on the skin.

To ensure your safety with meloxicam, do not exceed the recommended dosage without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision. To decrease the risk of potentially serious complications, it is recommended that people take the smallest effective dose for the shortest period of time.
