Meloxicam Risks

Meloxicam (Mobic®) is a drug approved for the treatment of several arthritis symptoms, including pain, inflammation, swelling, and/or stiffness. While most people have no problems during treatment, there are some important risks with meloxicam you should be aware of.

For example, meloxicam has been reported to cause cardiovascular events such as a heart attack or stroke, both of which can result in loss of life. Also, this drug can cause several other potentially serious complications, including high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, and liver damage. To decrease the chances of any these problems occurring, it is recommended that people take the smallest effective dose for the shortest period of time.

The most common side effects of this medication include diarrhea, headaches, and nausea. Although most reactions to this medication tend to be minor and easily treated, make sure to contact your healthcare provider if you develop potentially serious problems, such as chest pain or slurred speech.
