Meloxicam (Mobic®) is a medication licensed to treat several arthritis symptoms, including pain, inflammation, swelling, and/or stiffness. Specifically, it is approved for treating osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
This drug comes in liquid and tablet form. For osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, it may take several weeks for meloxicam to begin working to its full potential. It is important to take the lowest effective dose for the least amount of time in order to treat your condition. This will decrease the chances of serious side effects occurring.
The liquid form of meloxicam is only available by prescription and comes in one strength -- Meloxicam 7.5 mg/5 mL oral suspension -- 1 teaspoon (5 mL) contains 7.5 mg of medication. It works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
