How Does Meloxicam Work?

Meloxicam (Mobic®) is a prescription drug that can help treat pain, swelling, inflammation, and stiffness cause by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. But how does meloxicam work to relieve these arthritis symptoms?

Meloxicam belongs to a group of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (or NSAIDs for short). It works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, meloxicam can help alleviate pain, inflammation, and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and other painful conditions.

However, meloxicam is not a cure for these types of arthritis, nor does it slow down the progression of the disease.
