Drug Interactions With Meloxicam (Cont.)

More Detail About Interactions With Meloxicam

Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
If you are taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, while taking meloxicam, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.

Other Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Using these pain relievers with meloxicam can increase the risk of bleeding. Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) products can be safely used.

Aspirin
Aspirin and meloxicam can be used together; however, studies have indicated that the chances of developing stomach ulcers are higher when these medicines are combined. For your particular situation, talk with your healthcare provider about using aspirin and meloxicam together.

ACE Inhibitors (Accupril, Lotensin, Vasotec, Altace, Zestril, Prinivil, Monopril, Capoten)
Meloxicam may inhibit the blood pressure-lowering effects of ACE inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Diuretics (Torsemide [Demadex], Furosemide [Lasix], Hydrochlorothiazide)
Meloxicam may reduce the activity of diuretics. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
Taking meloxicam and lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by decreasing the removal of lithium by the kidneys. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood.
