Pain Home > Subsys Storage and Disposal

How Should I Dispose of Subsys?

You should also be given a "disposal bottle" that is used to dispose of any unused Subsys (that you haven't opened or used). The basic process is to spray the unused Subsys into the disposal bottle, which comes with a large disposal bag. Follow the instructions that come with the disposal bottle carefully.

Ask your healthcare provider about a Subsys child safety kit, which your provider can order for free. This kit contains a temporary safe storage bag (with a lock) for transporting the medication, along with a supply of cabinet and drawer safety latches to help keep your medication secure. Medication safes are also a good option, as long as they are kept locked and out of the reach of children.

Final Thoughts

It is very important that you are aware of the proper way to store and dispose of your Subsys medication. This drug has a high potential for abuse, and can be extremely dangerous if accidentally consumed by children or people who are not prescribed the medication. Make sure to ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you are unsure about anything related to Subsys storage or disposal.
