Pain Home > Clinoril Information

Clinoril® (sulindac) is a medication used for the relief of pain, inflammation, fever, and stiffness. Available in tablet form and in several strengths, this prescription drug is generally taken twice a day with food. Clinoril can also be used to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other conditions.
Clinoril and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are thought to work by inhibiting the action of prostaglandins, which are hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, Clinoril can help:
  • Reduce pain related to bone, muscle, or tendon injury or inflammation
  • Reduce fever
  • Alleviate pain and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and other conditions.
In order to determine if Clinoril is the right medication for you, your healthcare provider needs information on your complete medical history and any other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription products, vitamins, and supplements. This drug is not right for everyone, and it can react negatively with certain medications.
