Pain Home > Fentanyl Buccal Tablets

Fentanyl buccal tablets are a type of narcotic drug used for relieving breakthrough pain in people who have cancer and are already taking an around-the-clock pain medication. The tablets dissolve in the mouth and can be taken as needed. This medication is a strong narcotic opioid with a high potential for abuse. Side effects of the drug include nausea, constipation, and dizziness.

What Are Fentanyl Buccal Tablets?

Fentanyl buccal tablets (Fentora®) are a prescription narcotic pain medication licensed to treat breakthrough pain (sudden flares of pain that "break through" around-the-clock pain medication). This medicine is meant for use in people who have cancer and who are also taking regularly scheduled narcotic pain medication for their constant pain. These tablets are dissolved on the gums in the mouth or under the tongue.
This medication is a Schedule II controlled substance because it has a high potential for abuse and addiction. As a controlled substance, its use is highly regulated. Schedule II controlled substances are considered to have the highest abuse potential of all prescription medications.
