Lortab Drug Information

Lortab® (hydrocodone/APAP) is a pain medication often used to treat short-term pain caused by injuries, surgeries, or dental procedures. It is also occasionally used for relieving chronic pain, migraines, cancer pain, or other recurring or long-term conditions that cause pain.

Lortab contains two different pain medicines: hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic narcotic opioid pain reliever that is effective at relieving pain and decreasing coughing. Acetaminophen (commonly known as "APAP") is a pain reliever and fever reducer commonly found in non-prescription medications such as Tylenol®. Combining hydrocodone with acetaminophen helps improve the effectiveness of Lortab for relieving pain.

Before you start taking this medicine, safety information should be reviewed with your healthcare provider. If you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, it is important that you tell your healthcare provider before using Lortab. Since the medication contains a narcotic, it has a significant potential for abuse. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before taking Lortab if you have liver or kidney disease, Addison's disease, or hypothyroidism.
