Lorcet Generic: An Overview
Lorcet® (
hydrocodone/APAP) is a prescription pain medication. It contains two different medications:
hydrocodone (a narcotic) and
acetaminophen (
Tylenol®, also known as APAP). It is usually used to treat short-term pain (such as after an injury or surgery), although sometimes it is used for chronic pain.
Lorcet is made by Forest Pharmaceuticals. However, the patents for all Lorcet products have expired, and generic versions of Lorcet are available.
Strengths of Generic Lorcet
Generic Lorcet is available in the following strengths:
- Hydrocodone/APAP 5/500 mg capsules (equivalent to Lorcet-HD®)
- Hydrocodone/APAP 7.5/650 mg tablets (equivalent to Lorcet Plus®)
- Hydrocodone/APAP 10/650 mg tablets (equivalent to Lorcet 10/650®).
Can I Get "Real" Brand-Name Lorcet?
Typically, most pharmacies do not carry brand-name Lorcet products. Generic Lorcet is significantly less expensive, and many insurance companies require people to use the generic products. If you are willing to pay full price, as your insurance will probably not cover brand-name Lorcet, your pharmacy may be willing to stock brand-name Lorcet for you.
Keep in mind that many healthcare providers view requests for brand-name narcotics as a sign of abuse or diversion (selling the drugs to someone else), because brand-name narcotics usually have a higher street value than their generic versions. In almost all situations, a request for a brand-name narcotic instead of a generic may arouse your healthcare provider's suspicions.
