Recommending a Laparoscopy for Endometriosis
Based on your medical history, physical exam, and current symptoms, your doctor may be recommending a procedure called a laparoscopy to help diagnose, and possibly treat, certain pelvic conditions, including endometriosis.
Endometriosis is a condition that results when tissue grows outside of your uterus instead of inside it. This affects about 7 out of 100 women who are old enough to have children. Endometriosis can cause pelvic pain and make it hard to conceive.
Compared to the traditional surgery for endometriosis (open abdominal surgery), using a laparoscopic camera usually means less time in the hospital and quicker healing after the surgery.
