Laparoscopic Surgery for Endometriosis

Removing Endometrial Tissue

If endometriosis is found, during the next part of the surgery, the endometriosis will be taken out. After looking at all of your organs, your doctor will decide if it is safe to do this. Your doctor may find something that makes it impossible to take out the endometriosis, but this is rare.
If it is safe, your doctor will then make two or three more tiny incisions in your abdomen. These are for other tools that your doctor needs to take out the endometrial tissue. How your endometriosis is taken out will depend on how much there is inside your pelvis. A laser, scissors, special burning tool, or a combination of these may be used for tissue removal.

Finishing the Laparoscopic Surgery for Endometriosis

After the endometrial tissue is removed, the tools will be taken out and the gas will gently be pushed out of your abdomen. The layers of skin will be closed with stitches that will dissolve in your body over time. The doctor will then put a sterile bandage over the stitches to protect the area.
