Ketalar® is an anesthetic medication that may be administered during certain medical or surgical procedures. The active ingredient in this anesthetic is ketamine hydrochloride, also known as ketamine HCl or simply ketamine. Because it is a Schedule III controlled substance, ketamine HCl has a high abuse potential.
Ketamine HCl is used as a general anesthetic or to help induce anesthesia. It can be used alone or with other anesthetics. It is given as an injection into a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly).
Possible side effects of this anesthetic may include blurred vision, a rapid heartbeat, and mood changes. In most cases, people tolerate this drug well and most reactions are generally easy to treat.
