Ketamine Effects

Ketamine hydrochloride (Ketalar®) is an anesthetic used before certain medical procedures. Although most people tolerate this drug well, it is possible to develop side effects while taking ketamine.
For example, some of the possible reactions to this anesthetic include:
  • A rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Mental or mood changes.
In most cases, side effects are minor and easily treated. However, you should notify your healthcare provider right away if you develop serious ketamine side effects, such as difficulty breathing, severe vomiting, or extreme pain.
